February 25 - Annual Bowling Challenge at the American Legion. 24 team limit/8 teams per shift. Shifts are: 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The 12:30 and 3 p.m. shifts have been filled; we will add a 5 p.m. shift if necessary. The cost is $20 per bowler/$80 for a 4-man team. This includes 3 games of bowling, shoe rental and dinner. The 3 p.m. shift is asked to eat prior to bowling. Dinners are available for non-bowlers at $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. Reservation are appreciated.
February 25 - Shop for the Cause - 25th Annual NEDAwareness Week - Noon to 4p.m at Webster Hall, Grace Presbyterian Church. Come shop your favorite home parties and help raise money for The National Eating Disorder Association. The NEDA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. Participants include: Avon, Scentsy, Mary Kay, Thirty-One Gifts, Pure Romance, Premier Jewelry, Tastefully Simply & many more. For more information email to: ovneda@hotmail.com.
Martins Ferry Civics Baseball/Softball Summer Sign Ups - At Rec Center February 22, 25, 29 and March 3. From 5-7 on Wednesdays and 10-12 on Saturday. The registration fee is $50 for the first child and $30 for each subsequent child in the same family. Rebate coupons good for $10 per child will be available at each registration session from The Citizens Bank. Parents/guardians must have a current qualifying account at Citizens or open a new account by April 28 to receive the rebates. Children 5-17 are encouraged to sign up on one of the four designated days. Games will be scheduled throughout the months of May thru July. Call (740)340-8294.
March 17 - Benefit for Medical Expenses for Amanda Blust - Spaghetti Dinner - at the Recreation Center from 1-7 p.m. Dinner includes spaghetti, rolls, beverage and dessert. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. There will be entertainment, a 50/50 raffle, Chinese Auction and theme basket raffles. Amanda is the owner of Salon 10 (Martins Ferry Beauty Shop) and has been hospitalized for 4 weeks with a severe respiratory and bronchial illness and is now in a local rehabilitation center. March ??? - Our Annual Steak Fry will be held on March at the American Legion. Dinner will be from 6-8 p.m. with entertainment starting at 8. The cost is $16 per person and dinner includes steak, potato, salad and beer/pop. A cash bar is available. Please bring you own table service.
May 1 - 28th Annual Academic Recognition Banquet honoring students who attend Martins Ferry schools both public and private no matter where they reside or if they reside in Martins Ferry and attend a school outside the district. Students in grades 5-8 must have a GPA of 3.50 and students in grades 9-12 a GPA of 3.75. The Banquet will be held at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling and the dinner will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. Each student receives a complimentary ticket and friends and family may purchase up to 4 tickets per student for $11. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
May 19 - Grace Presbyterian Church's Annual Festival and Car Show in the Park. There will be inflatable rides from noon to 4 with food and craft vendors during the day. The car show is from 4-7 with dash plaques for the first 75 registered vehicles with t-shirts and goodie bags. There will be a DJ playing rock N roll music at the registration area near the Legion. 10 trophies will be awarded. The Deuces Wild band will close out the day. Grace Church is teaming up with CORE (in Ohio it is known as Lifeline). It is the organ donation procurement agency which operates in our area.
May 26 - Alumni Banquet at the White Palace, Wheeling Park. It is a great time to renew your friendships with classmates and friends. The alumni association continues to update their mailing lists. If you have a current mailing list for your class please share you information with them so they can keep their mailing list updated. June 9 - Runnin' From the Cops - Sponsored by 4th Annual Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #78. Proceeds to benefit Martins Ferry FOP Scholarship Fund. Registration starts at 7:30 - 8:15 a.m. and the race begins at 8:30 at Quality Motor Cars by Butch Miller. Pre-registration fee is $10 and includes one t-shirt per participant. Race Day rergistration is $12. There will be a limited number of t-shirts available on race day so it will be first come, first served. June 10 - The Great Race - 20th Annual Soap Box Derby and Super Kids Race. This will be the Chamber's 20th year to hold a Soap Box Derby. Last year was our first year to hold a Super Kids Race. The Derby is open to children ages 8 (must be 8 by race day) to 16 (cannot be 16 on race day) and the Super Kids Race is open to children with a medically diagnosed disability that a doctor is willing to document ages 8 to 18 (cannot be 18 on race day). Trial Runs will be held on June 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; inspections will be held on June 5 and 6 at the school bus garage starting at 5:30 each evening.
July 3 (raindate July 5) - Skyshow 2012 - Martins Ferry Schools Campus. Gates will open at 6 p.m. There will be various food vendors, games and inflatable rides along with musical entertainment. VIP Parking will be available at $10 this is located near the administration building; other parking is available in the parking lots at the schools. Fireworks will be done by Pyrotechnics by Presutti and will go off at dusk.
August 7-11 - Betty Zane Days - Sponsored by Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department. Co-chairs are Tom Regis and Mike Reese. There will be entertainment nightly along with rides, food vendors and games.
November 23 (Friday after Thanksgiving)Christmas Parade, Downtown. Sponsored by the Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department. Starts at 6:30 p.m. Contact person is Jack Regis, Jr. Registration starts at 4 at the City Garage.
